Tough times in SA
But South Africans are resourceful. There’s always something you can trade. Who says that the future belongs to the kids when you can turn them into cash now, when you really need it?
This sign can be seen from the N1 in Cape Town, as you look across the main railway line that leads to Johannesburg, just as you enter the city. I don’t know how effective it is, and how much money has been raised or how many kids have been sold.
The ‘children!!! for sale’ sign is fixed the back fence of a timber yard. Not far away, you’ll see several tiny pine house replicas and I expect that the yard owner is hoping that children will make the connection between the opportunity to buy a ‘wendy house’ and the message on the board. I nearly crash my car every time I see the words.
